These are county and state of Florida requirements.

Q. What does it take to become a volunteer firefighter?

• Fill out a Highlands county volunteer firefighter application

• Pass a back ground check

• Pass a physical

• Take a 160 hour firefighter class and pass state exam

• Be willing to attend in house training each week

• Be willing to attend fire department meeting once a month

• Trainings are held Tuesdays of each week
